Im curious, the requirements of having an event on a beach at Pyramid, whatever needs to be done to have an event go smoothly. Also, suggestions of where out there would be ideal would be awesome too!

Re: events @ Pyramid ?
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 12:21 PMbasically, every vehicle needs a permit from the tribe - ($8)
and running sound/generators into the morning means that you need to be as far away from potential noise compliants as possible, otherwise it can get ugly, and you will get ticketed for disturbing the peace / noise. underage drinking is a big no-likey as well.
any of the south beaches usually work out better than the pyramid side for dj stuff, as you can almost always find a deserted one, especially one that cant launch boats, inbetween tamaracks - pelican, while the pyramid beach will always have people there, most of whom dont want to hear "OONCE-OONCE"
(although the times that it has worked out on that side, it's pretty amazing)
have set up on Indian Head right by the rocks away from the beach, w/ speakers/gen facing road, and never had a problem, in fact i've never had any issues on that side, beach or not.
It's not as strict as dog valley, emphasis on permits and not bothering the other campers, being self-reliant, is pretty much it.

Fri, May 30, 2008 - 12:43 PMHey Joe, its been awhile. Things may have changed since Chirs and I looked into it a couple of years ago. But basically you need to contact the tribe and ask about a special event permit. If I remember right it was somewhere around $100-$150 for up to 150 people. You also have to provide your own prota potties (I believe it is 1 potty for every 50 people). I don't remember if they require you to provide your own insurance or not. They seemed easy to work with, but we never actually went through with our party there (it morphed into other party). It seems to be all about the money with them, if you are willing to pay enough they will let you play.
As far as places that are great to camp out there (and good for a party) we love Willows beach. It is about 3-5 miles after the pavement ends on the west side of the lake. It has many trees and a large beach. Unfortunately the Reno News and Review just gave away this spot in their latest issue. Also monument beach, just north of willows, is good as well. I have not been on the east shore much and I know there a few beaches that are now closed on that side to overnight camping. But many people love that side as well.
Hope that helps get you started. -

Fri, May 30, 2008 - 12:52 PMAlso if you want to deal with privet land, this (below) has been going around the announce list. They are having the first event there in June. I do not know these people personally, but from the sounds of it they would be more than willing to let something happen there with little cost. Check out the blog for pictures of the property and more info. It could be worth looking into.
There's something new happening in the desert...
Permaburn is a remote square mile of virgin land 60 miles north of
Susanville and 75 miles west of the playa. It's about to be used to
store and develop art for Burning Man as well as provide support for
theme camps with similar ideals year-round.
To introduce northern Nevada and California to this wonderful
opportunity, they are hosting a VERY free music / camp-out / art
festival called First Ashes at the site June 13th and 14th.
So if you're looking for a taste of freedom in the desert, click
through to my blog post where I'll be updating you with all the
details over the next few weeks...
